Elisabeth Moss refers to 'Handmaid’s Tale' final scene as 'television gold'

The Handmaid's Tale star and producer Elisabeth Moss is very satisfied with the series' conclusion after nearly nine years.

According to Moss, the series has come to an end exactly the way it should have, honouring the story and the long arc of her character's fight for justice and freedom.

Symbolising empowerment, the 42-year-old described the ending scene as a "full circle" moment for her character, June Osborne, who returned to the ruins of Waterford's home where she endured the trauma. 

When June begins to say, "a chair, a table, a lamp…" the two-time Golden Globe Award winner highlighted that this is a reference to the opening lines of Margaret Atwood's book and the start of the show.

As a producer, Moss, in the interview with Variety, stressed that she wouldn't have approved any ending that didn't feel true to the spirit of the show, lauding that the final scene is nothing short of  "television gold."

Underscoring how strongly she feels the writers and creators got it right, the Tony Award nominee calls the storytelling "f****** genius" an enthusiastic compliment.  

Debuted on April 26, 2017, the Hulu drama series wrapped up with the final episode on May 27, 2025.
