Fear Street: Prom Queen, has set the internet ablaze, with fans of the franchise expressing disappointment over the newly released installment.
The sequel to the 2021 horror film trilogy has ignited online debate, drawing both criticism and praise from viewers.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one fan wrote, “#FearStreetPromQueen is quite bad, very bad even. Just a mess on almost every level. If you love the original trilogy like me, you’ll find yourself incredibly disappointed in this slog. Intensely uninteresting and only left me fearing another Fear Street as bad as this one.”
Another viewer praised the attention to detail in original film, saying, “I just finished watching Fear Street Prom Queen and decided to go back and watch Fear Street 1. So much thought and detail went into part one’s intro alone. After 4 years, I can’t believe Prom Queen was so basic.”
Meanwhile, some fans defended Matt Palmer’s directorial.
One user posted, “#FearStreetPromQueen Exceeded my expectations. It’s more fun & character focused than the original films, with great costumes, suspense & a twist that surprised me. The cast shine & the kills are entertaining, though the motive was very easy to guess.”
The story centres on Lori Granger, a student participating in Shadyside High’s 1988 prom queen election, which takes a deadly turn as the candidates are targeted by a mysterious killer.
Fear Street: Prom Queen, starring India Fowler, Fina Strazza, David lacono, Suzanna Son, and more, premiered on Netflix on Friday, May 23.
