Tom Cruise retraces 30 years of ‘Mission: Impossible’ at NYC premiere
Tom Cruise receives massive standing ovation at the ‘Final Reckoning’ New York premiere
Tom Cruise, after the star-studded premieres at Cannes and London, stopped by at the New York screening of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
The sequel to Dead Reckoning continues with Cruise’s Ethan Hunt who is on an urgent mission to stop the Entity, a rouge AI threatening global security.
Addressing the crowd at AMC Lincoln Square, the Top Gun: Maverick star reflected on the long journey of the iconic franchise.
"This story is a culmination of the last 30 years," he said. "It’s been about seven years since we started talking about [Dead Reckoning – Part One], and McQ wanted to make two of them. I was like, 'You want to make two?'"
Cruise also recalled the challenges they faced during production.
"During that time we made Top Gun: Maverick and went through a pandemic and two strikes. All of us came together to will this into being," he said, acknowledging the collective effort behind the film’s completion.
He went on to express his heartfelt gratitude to the audience, saying, "It’s a great honour and privilege to be here and entertain you."
Before the film began to play, Cruise made sure everyone had their popcorn, given the film's long runtime, revealing that he "eats usually two or three buckets [during the movie]."
As the ending credits rolled, the crowd rose to their feet, cheering loudly for Cruise and his team praising the breath-taking "never been done before" stunts.
The last instalment, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, is slated for worldwide release on May 23.
