Justin Baldoni gets Harvey Weinstein's support in Blake Lively drama
Convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein notes similarities between his case and that of Justin Baldoni's
Disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein is throwing his support behind Justin Baldoni’s defamation lawsuit against The New York Times after the case struck a personal nerve.
“Watching Justin Baldoni take legal action… hit me hard,” Weinstein told TMZ on Wednesday, April 9.
He added, “It brought back everything I experienced when The Times reported on me in 2017.”
Baldoni filed suit earlier this year, accusing the outlet of collaborating with his It Ends With Us co-star Blake Lively to damage his reputation.
In her own complaint, Lively claimed Baldoni created a hostile work environment on set and attempted to sabotage her career. Baldoni denied the allegations and fired back legally, arguing The Times helped spread the accusations before any court filings were made.
Weinstein — who’s serving a combined 39-year sentence for rape and sexual assault convictions — claims The Times used the same tactics on him.
“They cherry-picked what fit their story and ignored critical context and facts that could have challenged the narrative,” he said.
The Times has moved to dismiss Baldoni’s suit, calling the claims “rife with inaccuracies” and citing its right to report on public interest cases. But Baldoni insists the outlet “maliciously colluded with Lively and her cohort” to publish what he calls a “false and defamatory hit piece.”
Weinstein concluded: “I should have stood up and fought back then… That failure still haunts me.”
