Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco share interesting story behind their engagement

Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez have recently shared interesting story behind their whirlwind engagement.

During an appearance on the latest episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host asked the singer and actress if she knew about Benny’s proposal at the time.

The Only Murders in the Building star revealed it was a complete surprise to her.

“We had to do a lot of promos for the album,” said the 32-year-old.

Selena mentioned, “I woke up, and I was very confused on what was happening, on where we were going, because it seemed kind of far.”

“So, I'm kind of a little grumpy,” she confessed.

The Emilia Perez actress continued, “I'm, like, tired... I said, ‘After this shoot, I'm going to go hang out with my friends.’”

“And he starts, I guess, going, ‘Okay, sure. We'll see when you get here,’” remarked the singer.

Benny chimed in and said, “She almost didn't even come. She was like, ‘I really don't feel that well. I think I'm just going to stay home today.”

“Can't we just make up the shoot another day?' And I was like, ‘Uhh...’ I'm trying to figure out a way to do,’” recalled the music producer.

While talking about his engagement, Benny pointed out that getting “engaged to someone is the craziest thing in the world”.

“It's like, right before you're going to tell someone you're going to be married to them forever. They're like, ‘Show me how good you can lie to me,’” explained the 37-year-old.

Benny added, “It's the hardest... She was just upset with me because the day before, I was making bad lies.”

The music producer, who got engaged to Selena in December 2024, told Jimmy that he kept the six-carat ring in a box, and he hid in a bag that he thought no one would go in.

“It was the scariest week of my life,” added Selena’s fiancé.

Meanwhile, the couple’s album I Said I Love You First, released today (March 21).
