Hitch director Andy Tennant has recently reflected on his conflict with onscreen lead Will Smith.
In a new interview with Business Insider, Andy, who marked the 20th anniversary of the romantic-comedy, opened up about his difficult working experience with King Richard actor.
“We had our difficulties,” said the movie-maker.
Andy revealed that the movie he wanted to make and the movie Will wanted to make, “neither one of those movies is as good as the movie we made together. It was a battle”.
The director also claimed that I Am Legend star also tried to “back out” of the project just three days before the start of filming so he could “work on it some more”.
However, Andy praised Will’s estranged wife Jada Pinkett Smith for stepping in behind the scenes.
“Jada was a big help,” he remarked.
The movie director mentioned that Jada “kind of seconded some of my instincts”.
“There was a time during prep when I was pushing back on a lot of crazy things that was happening,” recalled Andy.
Despite the clashes, the director pointed out that he was willing to make a second Hitch movie and even “submitted a proposal for a sequel”.
But Andy got to know that Will was moving forward with a sequel to the movie.
“I just found out about it three months ago. I had a really good idea for a sequel, and I was talking to an executive at Sony, and he said Will’s production company is developing a sequel,” explained the director.
In the end, Andy added, “Hey, that’s Hollywood.”
