Lizzo faces career setback with contradictory statements: ‘confusing’ fans

The Grammy-winning rapper, Lizzo, who was supposedly on a gap year, has made a series of contradictory remarks recently.

The 36-year-old musician was known for promoting body positivity through her music and media presence, as she embraced her plus-sized body.

However, when the Juice singer recently lost a significant amount of weight, fans started to question her stance.

“She’s charting her path forward in a way that’s not definitive,” said Kayla Larosa, who runs the pop culture commentary YouTube channel KaylaSays, where posts have included How The Internet Fell Out of Love with Lizzo. “[It] may be confusing for fans.”

This comes after Lizzo received backlash as she got involved in legal battle last year with her performers who accused her of harassment and creating a hostile work environment.

Following this scandal, the Pink singer announced that she had decided to take a break from being in the public eye.

“I’m taking a gap year & protecting my peace,” she wrote on Instagram with a picture of herself in a swimsuit standing on a balcony overlooking the treetops in Bali.

Fast forward to last Monday, October 14th, she denied ever being on a gap year, at Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit in Laguna Niguel, California.

When asked about the break by co-chair Maryam Banikarim, she contradicted herself.

“Gap year? Girl, who said gap year? I’ve just been working, working, working. You may not see me, but I’ve been working,” she said, before refusing to address the lawsuits filed against her by former employees.

“This isn’t the space,” she said.

The About Damn Time rapper has previously quashed the allegations, calling them “outrageous,” “sensationalized stories.”
