Legendary Blake Griffins announces retirement from NBA

American professional basketball player Blake Griffins has announced retirement from the National Basketball Association (NBA) on Tuesday, New York Post reported.

The six time All Star forward from the Los Angeles Clippers made the announcement via a post on social media where he thanked his fans and expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to his career.

He wrote, "I never envisioned myself as the guy who would have a 'letter to basketball' retirement announcement and I'm still not going to be that guy. But as I reflected on my career, the one feeling I kept coming back to and the one thing I wanted to express was thankfulness.

"The game of basketball has given me so much in this life, and I wouldn't change a thing. Last but certainly not least, here comes the obligatory 'I'm excited for my next chapter' part: just kidding, I'm done."

Griffins was last seen playing for Boston Celtics in an NBA match against the Atlanta Hawks in the 2022-2023 playoffs.

The 2011 'Rookie of the Year' played mostly with the LA clippers, spending eight seasons with them.

Besides the LA clippers, he has also played for Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets before ending with Boston Celtics in 2022-2023.

In total, Griffins has played in 765 games with an average of 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
