Two law enforcement officers have been shot and killed in Syracuse, New York on Sunday night, Syracuse reported.
It is being reported that a third person got shot too but no further information has been provided.
The double fatal shooting incident occurred in a residential area of the Syracuse suburb of Salina between 8pm and 9pm local time.
The suspect opened fire at an officer from the Syracuse Police Department and a deputy officer from the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
Onondaga Sheriff Toby Shelly said in a press conference that the suspect has been taken into custody and further investigations are going on.
Some local reports claim that the suspect has also been killed.
As per Shelly, the officers were working on a car theft case which led them to a house in Salina where the incident took place. Upon their arrival at the house, the suspect opened fire at them.
He said that the area has been secured and there is no threat to the residents living nearby.
As per local eye witnesses, at least 20 shots were fired.
Mousa Alzokari, who lives directly across the street from the house where the shooting occurred said, he saw an officer being carried to a sheriff’s vehicle and driven away. He also saw at least one person placed in handcuffs.
