Pregnant woman lauded for thwarting kidnapping attempt in Michigan
Pregnant babysitter rescues child from kidnapper in Michigan
A pregnant woman stopped a man from kidnapping a three-year-old child through a motel window. She has won hearts of many for her bravery.
Despite being in her ninth month of pregnancy, the heroic babysitter, Kendall Irland, stopped the kidnapping attempt at a motel in Michigan.
The incident took place on March 14 in Mancelona Township, a tiny community in northwest Michigan.
Talking to the 9&10 News, Irland said that she saw the man talking to the child through a window of the motel. The sight seemed normal to her. However, she said that she grew alarmed when she overheard him coaxing the boy to come out of the window, supposedly to find his father. Later, the man tried to pull him outside, she said.
The babysitter quickly pulled the child away and locked the window. "I've never moved that quick in my entire life," Irland recalled. “I jumped out of the bed, I screamed ‘No sir!’ as loud as I could.”
Irland kept the kidnapper engaged with the help of her husband until the police arrived and arrested the suspect. She also called the child's father who reached the site immediately.
Speaking to the 9&10 News, the child's father, Kristopher Phillips, thanked the babysitter's quick thinking and bravery.
“I mean, she’s pregnant right now dealing with a rough pregnancy… It was probably difficult for her, but I’m glad that her and my niece and her husband are safe and that… my kids are OK, too.”
