A woman lost both her feet after an argument with her boyfriend threw her before a train.
The incident took place at the Fulton Street subway station in Manhattan where a man allegedly threw his 29-year-old girlfriend onto the subway tracks, witnesses said. Soon after being pushed away, she was struck by an oncoming train.
The woman lost both her feet as a result of the accident. Witnesses said that the couple exchanged heated arguments before the sad incident.
Police responded to the scene just before 10:30am, finding the victim conscious but injured. Both of her feet had been amputated due to the impact. She was rushed to a local hospital and is now in stable condition.
The boyfriend reportedly fled the scene, and as of now, no arrest has been made. Police have started the investigation.
Recently, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced additional measures to address transit crime, deploying National Guard troops and State Police troopers into the subway system. This comes in addition to the 1,000 NYPD officers already patrolling subway lines and conducting security checks.
Governor Hochul's plan also involves assigning 1,000 state workers, including 250 state police troopers and Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police members, to support the NYPD in enhanced baggage checks at heavily trafficked areas of the subway system.
