Nikki Haley announces exit from Republican presidential race as Donald Trump stands tight
Nikki Haley confirms her Republican exit during remarks in Charleston, South Carolina
Nikki Haley, a former South Carolina Governor, announced on Wednesday that she is out of the Republican presidential race, leaving former President Donald Trump as the party's presumptive nominee.
She confirmed the announcement during remarks in Charleston, South Carolina after a series of losses in GOP nominating bouts on Super Tuesday, according to CNN.
CNN further reported that she is not anticipated to endorse Trump. In place of that, she is calling on the former president to gain the support of the voters, who were on her side.
Haley, who used to be Trump's US ambassador to the United Nations, was the last of the many candidates whom he defeated in a GOP primary. This also includes his 14 victories on Tuesday.
Haley, on the other hand, vowed to stay in the race through at least Super Tuesday.
She has also started strengthening her attacks on Trump, questioning his mental fitness and dragging him along with President Joe Biden, who is a possible Democratic nominee, as one of two "grumpy old men".
Her home state of South Carolina served as her fourth straight loss in 2024. This also included “none of these candidates” in the Nevada primary, where Trump wasn’t contesting and there were no delegates at stake.
