Margot Robbie, Colin Farrell starrer sells to Sony Pictures in major EFM deal
Margot Robbie's 'A Big Bold Beautiful Journey' will be her first role since her blockbuster 'Barbie'
Margot Robbie is set to star in a fantasy romance opposite Colin Farrell following her record-breaking movie Barbie last year.
The film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, is the first major deal of the European Film Market in Berlin, which began on February 15 and will conclude on February 21.
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures had tied up a deal in the $50M range for Robbie and Farrell’s package, which was one of the market’s hottest scripts.
Director Kogonada, known for After Yang and Pachinko, will be helming the project. Meanwhile, The Menu writer, Seth Reiss has penned the script for A Bold Beautiful Journey.
While the plot details of the movie are being kept under wraps, Kogonada described it as “an imaginative tale of two strangers and the unbelievable journey that connects them.” The film is due to shoot this spring in California.
Tom Rothman, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, said in a statement. “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey by Seth Reiss, is such a script and together with the superb director Kogonada, the perfect cast of Colin and Margot, and top flight producers Bradley Thomas, Dan Friedkin and Ryan Friedkin, it is a project from heaven.”
He continued, “We believe the audience is desperate for originality and we feel honoured and grateful to all involved to have won out for it.”
