The story begins in 2000 when Dave Kroupa and his longtime partner Amy Flora separated. Flora decided to move back to Omaha, and Dave moved as well so that he could stay close to his children, People reported.

Soon, Kroupa got a job as a mechanic and signed up for an online dating website, where he met the mother of two, Liz Golyar.

Kroupa described Golyar as "very energetic, very full of life." They both bonded well and had similar mindsets and passions.

Amid Kroupa’s on-and-off relationship, he met Cari Farver, a 37-year-old single mom. Kroupa described her as "smart and sexy" and "out of his league."

After one of their dates, he invited her over to his place, where, upon entering, they encountered Golyar, who was there to collect some of her things from his apartment.

Things were going well between them when, one morning in 2012, Kroupa received a text from Farver asking him to move in with her. Upon Kroupa’s refusal, she told him that she never wanted to see him again.

Within days, Farver allegedly began threatening him via messages; at the same time, she told her mother she had gotten a job in Kansas and was moving there.

Shortly after, Golyar and Kroupa began dating, and she too began receiving texts and emails from her.

Eventually, she thrashed Golyar's house and spray-painted her garage. Golyar reported the incident to the police.

The stalking escalated, and Kroupa’s ex-flora and her kids, too, began receiving threats.

In August 2013, Golyar's house burned down with all of her pets and belongings inside. Detectives suspected Farver was behind the arson. Later, Golyar moved away, leaving Kroupa behind.

Kroupa further got lonely and got pushed into drinking and depression.

The stalking and harassment continued.

In the spring of 2015, Ryan Avis and Jim Doty, investigators from the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office in Iowa, began looking for Farver, who was still nowhere to be found.

They tracked her bank details and found no money was used; they thought it was too weird.

The investigation pivoted to a death investigation. Avis and Doty examined her address, connected it to an IP address, and found the location.

In a shocking twist, it was discovered that Liza Golyar had been living temporarily at the address.

Some days later, Golyar called the police, claiming that she had been shot in the leg.

Golyar insisted that Flora be arrested; she claimed that she had been harassing her, and though the police knew she was lying, they asked her to show them the threatening messages where they read that she "stabbed Farver to death, burned her body with a tarp, and put her in a local dumpster."

They later found blood under the fabric of the passenger seat of Farver’s car.

While they didn't have Farver's body, the blood and digital evidence were enough for them to arrest Golyar. She was charged with first-degree murder.
