K-pop group NCT Dream face backlash for body shaming
The comments, which were seemingly made in a non-serious context, are being called out by many fans
Haechan and Chenle from the K-pop group NCT Dream are facing criticism for making body-shaming comments towards their bandmate Jeno. The moment took place behind the scenes of their M Countdown performance.
The comments, which were seemingly made in a non-serious context, are being perceived as body-shaming by many fans. The clip shows Haechan telling Jeno to “get in shape” to which he retorted saying that if he lost more weight he’d be “nothing but bones.”
Later on, Mark and Chenle also commented on his body, saying: “Jeno, keep going to the gym,” with Chenle admitting he likes to tease him about his physique. He explained that he does it out of affection because he finds the other member’s reactions to be cute.
“I mean, he must be very proud of his body. So just for fun, to tease him, I touched his arm and went ‘sigh’. He made a big response. I thought it was cute and kept doing it. Also for contrast, I sounded impressed after touching Jaemin and then I touched Jeno and said… [sighs].”
Netizens took to Twitter to give their thoughts on the clip. “dream are always constantly talking about jn’s body. i bet he’s tired of hearing it. also jn lost a lost of noticeable weight recently so this is just even more weird. all of them at it talking about his body, it’s just strange. it’s not even phrased nicely too."
