On the occasion of Eid ul Fitr, Federal Minister for Railways and Aviation Khawaja Saad Rafique announced a reduction in the fares for domestic travel on Saturday.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Rafique said that a 33% discount would be given on the fares of all classes of Pakistan Railways.

Meanwhile, the fare charges of economy and executive economy classes on domestic flights of PIA have been slashed by 20%.

It should be noted that the reduction in fares will be applicable from today.

Rafique stated that the reduction in fares would be applicable for the four days from July 22 to July 25.

Notifying the development PIA spokesperson said that the decision to slash prices has been taken to share the joy of Eid amongst the people.

The resilient nation is celebrating Eid ul Fitr today, marking an end to a month's fasting during Ramadan, with prayers for overcoming the ongoing economic and constitutional crises in the country.

Pakistan faces one of its toughest crises, coupled with external factors, leading to a further burden on the masses who are already hit with skyrocketing inflation.

Inflation clocked in at 35% in March, fuelled by a depreciating currency, a rollback in subsidies, and the imposition of higher tariffs to secure a bailout package of $1.1 billion from the IMF — International Monetary Fund.

Food inflation has risen to more than 47%, and even the wealthier professional class is making lifestyle changes to deal with rising prices.
