Report on details of MNAs’ assets being finalised

September 16, 2010
KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) have called for a detailed report on the assets of 1,100 former and present members of the National Assembly from 2002 to 2010 after the revelation of three-fold increase in the assets of the elected representatives during the last six years. Initial information in this regard has been provided to registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan.
On the other hand, the sources revealed that secret investigation agencies would give final shape to their report about the details of assets of the 1,100 elected representatives in a few weeks, which would not only be surprising but also shocking.
The detailed report of Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) for assembly members has been issued to several departments and after that Chairman Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) Adil Gilani summoned details of the assets of MNA Malik Riaz from the FBR, which is said to be equal to US$3 billion.
According to the report, average assets of the elected representatives in 2002 were 27 million, which increased to 81 million during the 12th and 13th National Assembly respectively. In this scenario, Federal Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh has directed the FBR, the PAC and tax collecting departments to check and collect all details of their assets minutely.
Adil Gilani, while talking to the News, said that the TIP had started collecting details of the assets of elected representatives on modern line and the only purpose of this action was that no possibility of corruption remained.
