LAHORE:
Jamaat-e-Islami naib ameer Hafiz Muhammad Idrees said interest/usury was strictly prohibited in Islam but the capitalists/industrialists ruling the country were bent upon continuing the interest-based economic system of the Zionists.
Addressing the JI central workshop at Mansoora on Tuesday, he said Allah and His Prophet (PBUH) had warned that those dealing in interest amounted to declaring a war against Allah and His Prophet (PBUH). He said courts had given their verdict against interest-based economy but rulers had created hurdles in the enforcement of court orders. He said Article 38 of the Constitution made it obligatory for government to abolish interest and establish Islamic economic system in the country. Hafiz Idrees said the masses were groaning under the burden of tyranny and injustice and the primary reason was the deviation of society from Islamic teachings and moral degradation.
He said JI wanted to pull the nation out of the present degradation and restore its honour and prestige. However, he said, this was possible only if the masses elected honest and sincere leadership.
Addressing the workshop, JI naib ameer Rashid Naseem said local government elections had become irrelevant as powers had not been transferred to the elected local bodies even after the passage of several months. He said the government had held local government elections under Supreme Court orders but the formation of local governments still remained a far cry as the provincial governments were not prepared to share powers with the elected LG representatives. He urged the Supreme Court to take notice of the matter.
Rashid Naseem said the corrupt rulers had plundered trillions of the public money during the last 68 years and still wanted status quo. He said, if this money had been spent on public welfare, the plight of the general public would have been ameliorated. He said that the country needed honest and God-fearing leadership. He said the JI would launch a drive against corruption in March.
