Witnesses summoned in Hashmi cases

LAHORE: An accountability court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of cases against former Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairman Asif Hashmi until August 28. The court has summoned prosecution witnesses for the same date.

The NAB had accused Hashmi of making illegal appointments in ETPB educational institutions. Moreover, ETPB’s former chairman is facing three corruption cases for illegal investment of Rs985.56 million in stock exchange and making 716 illegal appointments. Besides, Hashmi is also facing a case in FIA in which he was accused of selling ETPB land to DHA at cheap rates.

remand extended: An accountability court Wednesday extended judicial remand of M Hafeez, an accused in Fazaia Housing Society fraud case till July 27. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) accused Hafeez of fraud by robbing citizens in the name of the housing scheme. He is brother of accused Saleem Hanif, who is already under custody. The NAB had received more than 1,000 claims against them. The owners of MS Pearl De Gulf (Pvt) had signed an MoU with the directors of Estate Project of PAF for acquiring land measuring 350 acres for development of Fazaia Housing Scheme, Sargodha. However, the accused without acquiring the land, illegally sold plot files to the general public and allegedly collected billions. The accused sold plot files without taking any approval from the PAF administration.

The accused transferred 136 acres in the name of Fazaia Housing Scheme and more than 106 acres had been sold to the general public over and above their share.
