Man burns wife to death

LAHORE:A woman expired in a hospital on Sunday, a few hours after she was burnt alive by her husband in the Harbanspura area.

The victim has been identified as Gurya Bibi, wife of Shahzad. Accused Shahzad along with a friend, Iqbal, doused her petrol and set her on fire. As a result, she suffered severe burns. She was admitted to hospital where she expired.

The body was removed to the morgue. Youth dies during swimming: A youth died during swimming in a swimming pool in the Sherakot area on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Ahmed, 21, son of Rehan Mahmood of Sanda Bhattianwala Chowk. Ahmed went to the pool to swim with friends. He was swimming when he suddenly fainted in the water.

Rescue 1122 rushed him to Munshi Hospital where a doctor declared him dead. Wounded youth dies: A 22-year-old man wounded by two people in North Cantt area a day ago succumbed to his injuries in a local hospital here on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Zahid, son of Sodagar of Chungi Gujarpura Ghazi Road, North Cantt. Two people came to the victim’s store on Zarrar Shaheed Road and demanded cigarettes. Meanwhile, the accused started exchanging hot words with him and one of them fired at him.

As a result, he was injured and rushed to hospital where he died. Police registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s father Sodagar.

CCPO reprimands Muslim Town SHO: CCPO Lahore Ghulam Mahmood Dogar paid a surprise visit to Muslim Town police station on Sunday and expressed his displeasure over the poor conditions of cleanliness in the police station.

He reprimanded SHO SI Sajid Mahmood and In-charge Investigation Muslim Town Muhammad Fiaz and ordered the officers concerned to issue show-cause notices to both officers on unsatisfactory performance.

The CCPO inspected the front desk, reporting and record room, lockup and other related sections of the police station.

He also checked the attendance of the staff and record of the reporting room. Dolphin, PRU: Dolphin and PRU wings showed immediate response to the all 197 calls received on helpline 15 during the last week.

Dolphin and PRU wings checked more than 379,000 bikes, 646 other vehicles and more than 379,000 persons.

Around 784 bikes and eight vehicles were impounded and 371 persons were arrested due to incomplete documents. Dolphin Squad and PRU also arrested 59 criminals for violating a ban on kite-flying, two for firing in the air and another 40 on charges of wheelie-doing.
