LAHORE
“Maadr-e-Jamhooriat Begum Nusrat Bhutto is a national asset who stands tall in contemporary history as an extraordinary woman in a long and tortuous struggle for democracy who continues to inspire democrats to lofty goals in life,” said former president Asif Ail Zardari in a message on the fourth death anniversary of Begum Nusrat Bhutto.
According to a press release issued here on Thursday, Zardari said Begum Sahiba personally led from the front a heroic struggle for the restoration of democracy in the country, adding also “seldom before a woman endured so much in the course of democratic struggle”. The scars of brutalisation that she wore on her mind and body will continue to shine as glittering medallions, he said.
Begum Sahiba was the spouse of Pakistan’s first directly elected Prime Minister and the mother of twice elected and the Muslim World’s first directly elected Prime Minister. But no less she was also an inspiring leader who led the struggle for democracy from the front, he said.
