New record for highest number of cases in a day in twin cities

Rawalpindi:A new record has been set for the highest number of patients tested positive from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in one day since the coronavirus illness, COVID-19 outbreak hit this region of the country as in last 24 hours, 261 new patients were confirmed positive taking tally to 4,139 while the virus claimed another four lives taking death toll to 108.

Many health experts believe that the massive spread of coronavirus illness being witnessed in the twin cities hints towards a much disastrous situation and if it is not controlled in time, the situation may be much alarming in next few days and the healthcare facilities would not be able to cater to the needs of COVID-19 patients in the region.

The virus claimed three lives in Rawalpindi district in last 24 hours, one each from Kallar Syedan, Rawal Town and Cantonment Board area. All the three patients died of COVID-19 were over 60 years of age and were hospitalized.

Two of the patients died at Benazir Bhutto Hospital and one at Corona Management Centre at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology. Meanwhile, the virus claimed another life in Islamabad Capital Territory in last 24 hours.

Death of another three patients took death toll to 89 in Rawalpindi district from where another 125 patients have been tested positive in last 24 hours taking total number of confirmed patients so far reported to 2,124 of which 712 have so been discharged after treatment from healthcare facilities in town, said Executive District Officer (Health) Dr. Sohail Ahmed Chaudhary while talking to ‘The News’ on Thursday.

He added as many as 430 confirmed patients of COVID-19 were undergoing treatment at the healthcare facilities in town while 892 confirmed patients of the disease have been in isolation at their homes in the district while number of persons under quarantine at their homes was 2,174 on Thursday.

Meanwhile, another 136 were tested positive in one day from ICT after which the total number of confirmed patients so far reported from the federal capital reached 2,015 of which only 152 have so far recovered from the illness. The virus claimed another life in ICT in last 24 hours taking death toll to 19 in the federal capital.
