Three accused shoot at woman, slit her throat

LAHORE:Three suspects killed a woman at VIP Chowk on Zarrar Shaheed Chowk in the North Cantt police limits on Tuesday. The Dolphin Squad chased the accused and arrested them. The accused shot her dead and later slit her throat. Police responded to the emergency and nabbed them. They were identified as Akram, Shahzeb and Junaid. Police also collected forensic evidence from the scene.

commits suicide over illness: An 80-year-old man committed suicide in the Liaqatabad police limits on Tuesday. Police have removed the body to morgue for autopsy. The victim, identified as Abdul Razzaq Sharif, committed suicide with a sharp-edged weapon. Police also recovered a suicide note which said he was dejected over a protracted illness. He wrote Edhi may bury his body.

beggars: In a crackdown police rounded up a number of beggars here on Tuesday. CCPO Zulfiqar Hameed ordered for launching anti-beggary drive after receiving reports that professional beggars were found involved in interrupting distribution of ration among those affected by the coronavirus. Crackdown was conducted simultaneously in areas of Manawan, Data Darbar, Batapur, Liaqatabad, Model Town, Kahna, Nishtar Colony, Sui Gas Society and Racecourse. The CCPO directed the police to speed up the anti-begging campaign in all police divisions in Lahore. He directed SSP Operations Mohammad Naveed to submit a report on the drive.

checking: Police continued to ensure implementation of Section 144 to contain unnecessary movement of people in the city during the partial lockdown in wake of coronavirus. Lahore Police Operations Wing has set up more than 200 pickets in different areas of the city to contain people from unnecessary movement. More than 1 lac 19 thousands 600 citizens have been checked at these pickets till now since the lockdown whereas more than 1 lac 10 thousand people have been asked to contain their unnecessary movement in the city and go back to homes. DIG Rai Babar Saeed said 1,489 FIRs have been registered against people involved in violations of sections 144. More than 3,600 citizens were released afterwards taking warranty bonds. As many as 101,159 vehicles including 58,690 motorcycles, 18,843 cars, 15,561 rickshaws, 2,583 taxis and 5,482 bigger vehicles were stopped on pickets and vehicles owners were issued warnings for unnecessary movement in the city. Rai Babar Saeed visited the pickets and Naaka Jaat to review the arrangements.

Delegation: A delegation of Shia community called on DIG Operations Rai Babar Saeed in his office here on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner Danish Afzaal, SSP Operations Muhammad Naveed, members of district government and other police officers were present. Tauqeer Hussain Baba, Syed Sibtain, Qasim Ali Qasmi, Malik Shoukat Hussain, Syed Jaffar Shah, Syed Afsar Hussain and Syed Khurram Naqvi included in the delegation. The delegation discussed matters and issues related to the quarantine of coronavirus patients. DIG Rai Babar Saeed said members from all sections of society can defeat this fatal pandemic with collective efforts.

awareness song: On the eve of World Health Day, Punjab police released a public awareness song on the coronavirus pandemic.

In the song, precautionary measures and prevention against coronavirus were suggested. Punjab IG Shoaib Dastgir said: “Instead of being afraid, it is our aim and mission to fight global pandemic and Pakistani nation will be successful in defeating coronavirus by following the precautionary measures given by the health experts." The song was recorded in the voice of singer Sultan Saqib Baloch. The video of the song was filmed in the background of historical places like Badshahi Mosque, Minar-e-Pakistan and other famous places.
