IT data centre set up at LCWU

LAHORE:An IT data/service centre was inaugurated at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) here on Monday.

Inaugurating the centre, LCWU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Bushra Mirza hoped that the potential of IT data centre would be fully utilised by the students in general and IT students in particular.

The centre is established on an area of 2,275 square feet with a funding of 5.688 million provided by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. The centre would act as a hub for close interaction of IT staff for the seamless provision of IT services throughout the university. Through the establishment of this centre, the university would be able to implement domain, exchange, storage, FTP, NMS, web, proxy, etc. services.

Research stressed: The developed countries have paid special attention to research and development in the field of medical sciences, and medical experts and research scholars have contributed a lot of research on the latest trends in medical science. It is essential that medical students should demonstrate their abilities by working hard day and night in the field of research and reference.

Prof Dr Khalid Saeed Khan from the UK made these remarks in a lecture on the Methodology & Article Writing of Research Work for medical students at Lahore General Hospital on Monday. Principal Postgraduate Medical Institute Prof Dr Sardar Mohammad Al-Freed Zafar, faculty members and PGMI/AMC’s students were present.

Prof Khalid Saeed Khan said that there is no shortage of talent in Pakistani doctors and specialists who are educated from various Pakistani Medical College’s and postgraduate medical institutes providing services in different countries. They are highlighting the name of their country in other continents successfully. He said that their professionalism is in no way less than that of doctors in developed countries however it could be enhanced by continuing research work and updating knowledge in the medical field.

LDA approves Rs2.13b projects: Development Working Party of Lahore Development Authority accorded clearance for execution of two development projects in the city at a total cost of Rs 2.13 billion, including construction of an underpass near Firdaus Market, Gulberg and an entertainment park in Johar Town.

Meeting of the LDA’s Development Working Party was held under the chairmanship of Director General LDA Sumair Ahmad Syed. The meeting was informed that in order to avoid frequent traffic jams from Centre Point, Gulberg, to Cavalry Ground and for facilitating the vehicles going towards MM Aalam Road, a two-lane dual carriageway full depth underpass will be constructed near Firdaus Market at a cost of Rs 1.80 billion. The underpass will be 540-feet long for which special arrangements will be made for drainage of storm water. No existing structure in the area will be affected as a result of this project and around seven kanal-land will be acquired for this project.

MoU: Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) and Qasim Ali Shah Foundation (QASF) Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The MoU is aimed at promotion of professional training and development and enhancement of learning capabilities and professional skills for career development in the higher education sector in Punjab.
