LAHORE:A special counter of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) established at One Window Cell of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) failed to work properly on its first day of operations here on Wednesday.
LDA Director General Sumair Ahmad Syed integrated the counter after which LDA got access to the database of Nadra for biometric verification of persons coming for property matters. However, the system went offline repeatedly, causing difficulties for the citizens who came to LDA’s one window for various jobs.
The facility will authenticate genuineness of sellers or purchase of property through their biometric verification as well as thumb impression of a person could be verified instantaneously.
Citizens visiting LDA’s one window appreciated the new system but criticised its repeated collapse. They said proper power backup and connecting facility should be ensured to run the system in a proper manner. Shakeel Ahmed, a visitor, said when he approached the Nadra counter for verification he came to know that the system was offline due to some connectivity issues. He said he waited for almost an hour till the system restored. He said during this several visitors of LDA’s one window standing at the counter went back.
LDA DG said the authority will also have access to the family tree and other details of family members of the relevant parties through this system. He said one of the main advantages associated with biometric technology is high individual identification accuracy. Biometrics use unique physical traits such as a fingerprint. Moreover, biometric technology is a very accurate technique for authenticating citizens and has a proven track record along with many industry verticals throughout Pakistan.
Unlike the use of other forms of authentication, such as passwords or tokens, biometric recognition provides a strong link between an individual and a data record. One area where biometrics can provide substantial help is in guarding against attempts to fraudulently establish multiple identities.
