LAHORE:A meeting of Punjab Task Force to review boundaries of tehsils and districts in the province was held at Civil Secretariat here on Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Social Welfare Raja Basharat. Minister for Prosecution Ch Zaheer-ud-Din, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) and related officers attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed procedures and rules for setting up new districts and tehsils in Punjab.
The officers concerned briefed the meeting that the population of some tehsils is more than that of the districts while the population of some districts is less than tehsils so it is necessary to revise their boundaries.
The ACS stated that according to the TORs of the Task Force, the local district administration will initiate a proposal for new tehsils or districts. The proposals will be handed over to a study group comprising representatives of the Punjab Board of Revenue, Finance department, P&D and Excise department.
This study group will review the proposals in the context of population, geography and economic impacts and send its recommendations to the Cabinet Committee for further proceedings. The law minister directed the agencies concerned to consider the needs and facilities of local population primarily for the establishment of a new district or tehsil.
UK university: A two-member delegation from Manchester Metropolitan University of United Kingdom led by Mr Rick Canavan, faculty head (International), accompanied by Dr Amna Khan, senior lecturer, visited Punjab University’s Hailey College of Banking and Finance (HCBF).
According to a press release, the delegation also met with HCBF Principal Prof Dr Mubbsher Munawar Khan while faculty members of the college also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the educational programmes of both universities were discussed in detail to explore the areas of interest for mutual cooperation to accomplish the objectives for achieving academic excellence.
The delegation assured that their university would be ready to deliberate upon the appropriate avenues for providing proper counselling to the candidates. Different proposals for undertaking student and faculty exchange programmes were also discussed. It was agreed to examine the feasibility of distance learning programmes at different stages of degree programmes to add strength to the degrees of both institutions.
