Vegetables, fruit sell at high ratesin Sunday bazaars

LAHORE: Vegetable and fruit sellers taking full advantage of administration’s focus on dealing with flour crisis were openly selling b-grade items at the price of a-grade items and overcharging for almost all items in Sunday bazaars here on Sunday.

Deputy commissioner and assistant commissioners visited the makeshift markets to check wheat flour supply, but they did not bother to check the quality and quantity of vegetables and fruits in the markets as a number vegetables were not available due to wrong price fixation.

Overcharging and failure to implement official rates in makeshift and open markets added to problems of consumers. The price of potato soft skin new A-grade was increased by Rs 2 per kg, fixed at Rs 33 to 37 per kg, not available, and potato B-grade fixed at Rs 29 to 33 per kg, sold at Rs 37 per kg.

The price on onion A-grade was reduced by Rs 5 per kg, fixed at Rs 41 to 45 per kg, not available, B-grade at Rs 37 to 41 per kg, sold at Rs 45 per kg. The price of tomato A-grade was reduced by Rs 40 per kg, fixed at Rs 72 to 80 per kg, mixed sold at Rs 80 per kg.

Garlic local was increased by Rs 11 per kg, fixed at Rs 240 to 258 per kg, sold at Rs 280 per kg, garlic Chinese fixed at Rs 245 to 255 per kg, sold at Rs 320 per kg. Ginger Chinese was reduced by Rs 39 per kg, fixed at Rs 265 to 289 per kg, sold at Rs 320 per kg. Brinjal was further gained by Rs 17 per kg, fixed at Rs 87 to 90 per kg, not sold on account of wrong pricing. Cucumber farm was reduced by Rs 20 per kg, fixed at Rs 46 to 48 per kg, sold at Rs 50 per kg.

Biter gourd was gained by Rs 13 per kg, fixed at Rs 107 to 111 per kg, not sold. Spinach local was gained by Rs 2 per kg, fixed at Rs 38 to 40 per kg, not sold and spinach farm was gained by Rs 3 per kg, fixed at Rs 31 to 33 per kg, sold at Rs 40 per kg. Zucchini long was reduced by Rs 7 per kg, fixed at 65 to 68 per kg, not sold due to wrong pricing issue.

The price of lemon Chinese was gained by Rs 6 per kg, fixed at Rs 53 to 56 per kg, sold at Rs 80 per kg. Cauliflower was reduced by Rs 5 per kg, fixed at Rs 38 to 40 per kg, sold at Rs 50 per kg, and cabbage was increased by Rs 5 per kg, fixed at Rs 43 to 45 per kg, sold at Rs 50 per kg. Pumpkin was gained by Rs 16 per kg, fixed at Rs 89 to 92 per kg, not on account of wrong pricing. Lady finger was increased by Rs 7 per kg, unchanged at Rs 110 to 115 per kg, not sold.

Arum was fixed at Rs 80 to 83 per kg, not sold. Green chili price was fixed at Rs 130 to 135 per kg, not available on pricing issue. Capsicum price was increased by Rs 10 per kg, fixed 165 to 170 per kg, sold at Rs 200 per kg. The price of pea was reduced by Rs 20 per kg, fixed at Rs 125 to 130 per kg. Carrot local was reduced by Re one per kg, fixed at Rs 31 to 33 per kg, sold at Rs 35 per kg.

Coriander was fixed at Rs 70 to 80 per kg, sold at Rs 120 per kg. Beans were sold at Rs 200 per kg while no rates were issued. Methi was reduced by Rs 12 per kg, fixed at Rs 36 to 38 per kg, sold at Rs 40 per kg. Turnip was gained by Rs 3 per kg, fixed at Rs 26 to 28 per kg, sold at Rs 30 per kg. Mustard leaves fixed at Rs 28 to 30 per kg. Radish was fixed at Rs 12 to 13 per kg, sold at Rs 15 to 20 per kg. Beetroot was fixed at Rs 40 to 45 per kg, sold at Rs 50 per kg. The price of different variety of apples was fixed at Rs 62 to 144 per kg, B-grade sold at Rs 80 to 140 per kg and A-grade was sold at Rs 180 per kg.

The price of Banana A-category fixed at Rs 100 to 110 per dozen and B-category by Rs fixed at Rs 70 to 75 per dozen, sold at Rs 100 per dozen.

Papaya was fixed at Rs 110 to 115 per kg, lower quality sold at Rs 120 per kg.

Pomegranate Bedana price was not fixed sold at Rs 400 per kg, Pomegranate danadar was sold at Rs 240 per kg, and Pomegranate khandari was sold at Rs 165 to 205 per kg, not available.

Grapes Irani was fixed at Rs 200 to 210 per kg, not sold.

Guava was fixed at Rs 55 to 58 per kg, sold at Rs 70 per kg.

Sweet potato was fixed at Rs 46 to 48 per kg, not sold on pricing issue.

Grape fruit was fixed at Rs 17 to 18 per piece, lower quality sold at Rs 15 to 20 per piece.

Musami was fixed Rs 86 to 103 dozen, lower grade sold at Rs 80 to 100 per dozen and A-grade sold at Rs 120 to 130 per dozen.

Kinow A-grade was fixed at Rs 110 to 115 per dozen, B-grade was fixed at Rs 48 to 74 per dozen and was sold at Rs 90 to 120 per dozen while A-grade was not sold there.

Citrus fruiter was fixed at Rs 110 to 115 per dozen, sold at Rs 100 to 140 per dozen.
