Book on Parliament of Pakistan launched

LAHORE:A book titled Parliament of Pakistan by Punjab University Department of History and Pakistan Studies Professor Dr Mahboob Hussain was launched on the university’s New Campus here on Wednesday.

Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun while addressing the ceremony said, unfortunately, institutions in Pakistan could not be strengthened in 70 years history of Pakistan. He said it was the Army only which followed discipline.

PU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar, Faculty of Arts and Humanities Dean Dr Iqbal Chawla, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Chairperson Mehdi Hasan, senior analyst Zafar Ullah Khan, Pakistan Study Centre former Director Dr Massarat Abid, Prof Dr Mahboob Hussain, faculty members, researchers and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

The minister said the whole world recognised Pakistan’s strategic importance. He said the standard of debate on serious topics had not improved in Pakistan. He said continuity of democracy was a must for the country to prosper. He said the government was making efforts to strengthen institutions for the development of the country. He appreciated Prof Dr Mahboob Hussain for writing a comprehensive book on Pakistan’s parliament. Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar said Pakistan was making progress in democracy, education, economics and other sectors. He said the Muslims were even not allowed to drink water with Hindus.

Senior analyst and human rights activist Dr Mehdi Hasan said there was a need to do research and present accurate references on various events of history. Zafarullah Khan lauded the efforts of Dr Mahboob Hussain on documenting various aspects of the parliament of Pakistan.

He said the parliament was a brain of state and it was a good omen that such debates were being organised in Punjab University.

Dr Massarat Abid said that Pakistan was a result of democratic efforts but, unfortunately, obstacles were created and democracy was not allowed to prosper. She said corrupt system and weak policies weakened democracy.

Dr Iqbal Chawla said Prof Mahboob Hussain had rightly tried to explain the role of parliament in Pakistan. He said corrupt politicians, political parties and other factors weakened democracy in Pakistan.

Students greeted: Postgraduate Medical Institute and Ameer Uddin Medical College Principal Prof. Al Fareed Zafar has said that medical students are full of talent in co-curricular activities and they express it as well if they are given proper opportunities. He expressed these views while congratulating the students of Ameer Uddin Medical College Society of Research who won first position across the country and 50,000 cash award at Young Investigator Award at a conference in which there were participants from not all over the country but also from abroad.

The PGMI principal said that in minimum period Ameer Medical College had set a new record of achievements. “We all are proud of Azhar Husain, a brilliant student of Ameer Uddin Medical College, who earned good name for his educational institute. He also congratulated all the office-bearers of Society of Ameer Uddin Medical College who worked hard day and night.

The research presented there was completed under the supervision of Professor of Medical Unit-I Prof Dr Ghias un Nabi Tayyab.

According to the details, Asia Pacific Association for Study and Pakistan Society for Study jointly arranged the four days conference in which medical experts not only from Pakistan but from other countries also participated. In the conference especially the diseases related to liver came under discussion and their treatment and cure was highlighted by the speakers. Research papers were also presented by researchers and professors. Speakers threw light on the importance of research to go at a par with the developed countries and keep in view the changing scenario in the medical field.

On this occasion honorary certificates were distributed among the participants from Ameer Uddin Medical College while student Azhar Husain was given cash award and special certificate by the management of the conference held in Islamabad.

Hindu yatrees: Hindu Yatrees from India performed their religious rituals at Karishna Mandir here on Wednesday. The Hindu pilgrims offered their religious rituals at Krishna Mandir. They also visited Greater Iqbal Park. They visited historical places, including Lahore Fort and Gurdwara Dera Sahib and Anarkali Bazaar.
