LAHORE:Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary Muhammad Usman led an operation in the Sundar Industrial Estate and recovered more than 300,000 bottles of expired syrup on Friday.
In this connection, a warehouse of a well-known company and a private godown were sealed by the Health Department in the presence of the health secretary. A special team also lodged a police case against the culprits. The seized syrup bottles were discarded.
Muhammad Usman said the company had placed the medicine to sell while syrup bottles had expired one year earlier. Two truckloads of expired syrups were sold in one million rupees while the rest were to be sold yet. Company’s godown has been sealed situated in Sunder Industrial Estate as well as its unit in Kot Lakhpatt.
The health secretary said that according to the law expired medicine must be discarded within one month of its expiry date. He said that expired syrup was being sold after changing its expiry date. Furthermore, he stated, it is biggest crime to sell expired medicine which is used in the treatment of liver-related diseases.
Protest: A protest against lawyers’ attack on Punjab Institute of Cardiology, and a walk to express solidarity with PIC victims held here at Lahore General Hospital in which professors, doctors, nurses and leaders of grand health alliance jointly participated. They were carrying placards having slogans to express solidarity with the medical staff of PIC while all the participants were also wearing black armbands.
This walk started from Admin Block and ended at PINS of LGH where a number of participants strongly criticised the lawyers’ behaviour. Dr Qasim Awan and Dr Amaar Yousaf said the incident had given bad name to our country at international level and now it is high time that culprits of this incident be given exemplary punishment.
Condolence: University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore and Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC) jointly organised a condolence reference here on Friday for Dr Sayed Muhammad Sayedain Jaffery, the first veterinary graduate of Pakistan.
Punjab Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development Sardar Hasnain Bahadur Dreshak chaired the condolence reference while UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, PVMC former President Dr Muhammad Arshad, former UVAS VCs and a large numbers of UVAS alumni, microbiologists, poultry experts and veterinarians attended the ceremony. Hasnain Bahadur Dreshak said Dr Sayed Muhammad Sayedain Jaffery’s outstanding services for the uplift of veterinary profession would always be remembered.
The participants paid rich tribute to Dr Sayed Muhammad Sayedain for his services for the development of veterinary profession at the national and international level. Prof Masood Rabbani spoke about the life and contributions of Dr Sayed Muhammad Sayedain Jaffery saying was the eldest alumnus of UVAS. He was born on May 17, 1926 and passed away on December 6, 2019, at the age of 93. He was the founder of Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC). He had done PhD from Sri Lanka in 1997.
