Online system for admission to universities from next year

LAHORE:Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has said the Combined Online Admission System will be launched by next year for admissions to all the universities and the government has worked out a 10-year project for establishment of one university in every district of the province.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the government has saved the country from bankruptcy through well-conceived economic policies, said the Punjab governor while talking to Provincial Energy Minister Dr Akhtar Malik, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Vice-Chancellor Zia Ullah Qayyum, Government College University (GCU) Faisalabad VC Dr Shahid Kamal and other delegates at Governor’s House here on Friday.

Talking to the VC, Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said that government had prepared a 10-year road map under which a university in every district of Punjab and an international standard university at the divisional level would be established. In the first year of the project, work is in progress on eight universities. First time in history of Punjab, all the appointments in universities ranging from the posts of VCs to the low level are being made on 100 per cent merit and it is also responsibility of the VC to ensure merit and transparency in the universities. He said no leniency in this regard would be tolerated.

polio drive: Students of Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS) on Friday paid a goodwill visit to polio Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), vaccination teams in high risk Union Council 109 and adjacent households ahead of the national immunisation drive against polio starting from December 16 (Monday).

The visit was jointly organised by the Punjab polio programme and Punjab University ISCS department. Polio Emergency Operations Centre of Punjab and the department have recently agreed to promote polio eradication efforts through a mutually agreed set of activities. During their visit, students belonging to KP, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan, met with the coordinator of the Emergency Operations Centre of Punjab Salman Ghani and inquired about challenges in polio eradication.
