Steps being taken to meet FATF goals: minister

Punjab Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Social Welfare Raja Basharat has urged doctors and lawyers not to allow incidents such as the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in future.

He said that the incident was viewed by all sections of society as disrespectful, ‘so our educated class should always be patient’. He said the government was taking action against the miscreants who took law into their own hands and would punish those responsible.

Meanwhile, the minister said the Punjab government is taking all possible steps to meet the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) goals. He was speaking at a meeting of British High Commission’s Political Counselor Miss Luna Thomas in the Civil Secretariat. He said that Punjab Assembly was making effective legislation for the improvement of social sector while the new local government system of Punjab would play an important role in transferring powers to the grass roots level. He said that the democratic countries should take notice of the worst oppression in Indian occupied Kashmir. Luna Thomas said the United Kingdom wanted a cordial relationship with Pakistan at all levels and wanted to work with the Punjab government to enhance the capacity of the departments for well being of the common people.
