An additional district & sessions judge Wednesday restrained former test cricketers Sarfraz Nawaz and Aamir Sohail from commenting on Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its former chairman Najam Sethi.
AD&SJ Sohail Shafiq issued the stay order on two separate suits filed by Najam Sethi seeking recovery of damages of Rs100 million from Aamir Sohail and Sarfraz Nawaz.
The plaintiff through his counsel pleaded that both former cricketers had been using derogatory remarks against PCB and its executive committee chairman Sethi for quite sometime. The PCB served legal notices to the former cricketers, telling them to stop using abusive and derogatory remarks against PCB and Sethi and apologise for their annotations. But the notices did not prevent or deter them from flaying the board and Sethi in electronic and print media, the counsel added.
Sethi had filed two separate cases for recovery of Rs100 million as damages under the Defamation Ordinance 2002. “After hearing arguments on a stay application, on behalf of the plaintiff, I was pleased to pass restraining orders whereby the defendants have been restrained from levelling false, malicious and defamatory allegations against the plaintiff in the electronic and print media,” the court order explained. The court also issued notices to the former cricketers.
