LAHORE:Provincial Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Social Welfare Raja Basharat has said that cooling down of political temperature in the country is in the government’s interest but Opposition should also avoid doing politics over non-issues.

Addressing Punjab Assembly press gallery at the PA cafeteria on Tuesday, the Law Minister said that the government believed in moving ahead while taking all the stakeholders together.

Responding to a question, he said it was in the government’s interest if the level of hostility between it and the Opposition came down but at the same, he added the Opposition should also play its due role and avoid paying focus on non-issues. Responding to another question related to the issuance of Production Orders of Opposition MPAs, he dispelled the impression that Prime Minister was meddling into the affairs related to National Assembly or Punjab Assembly. He said the PM was the team leader but the issue related to the issuance of Production Orders pertained to the domain of assembly Speaker who had never been pressed over this matter.

He said the Punjab government made all decisions within the party through mutual consultation with top leadership. When asked to respond about the rumours of change and decrease in the level of years long hostility between Sharifs and Chaudhrys, he said the government had successfully completed one year, so there was no authenticity in these rumours. He added that any news about any rift among the government ranks should also regarded as baseless.

The minister added that the government was taking immediate measures to reduce price hike but it also depended on the supply and demand of the commodities; however, will likely be reduced in the coming days. He said that in the case of Nawaz Sharif, the government did not show a moment of inadequacy or misconduct and provided all the facilities for his treatment according to his will. Raja Basharat said that the current session of PA has come up with a larger agenda of legislation.
