Town Planning Day observed

LAHORE:Department of City and Regional Planning of the University of Management and Technology (UMT) observed 70th World Town Planning Day to bring together planners and communities to draw attention to the aims, objectives, and progress of urban and regional planning around the globe.

According to a press release, Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, Minister Housing, Vice Chairman, LDA, SM Imran, Zaigham Rizvi, Chairman of Federal Housing Taskforce, President, UMT, Ibrahim Hassan Murad, Rector UMT, Dr Muhammad Aslam, industrial experts, faculty and students attended the event.

Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed said there was no proper town planning in the past, therefore, people were facing traffic and law and order problems. He suggested the experts to find out better solutions to overcome the issues faced by society as it was the need of hour. He said Future Cities Initiative would shape cities of tomorrow and government would provide homes to all needy. Ibrahim Hassan Murad shared his views and said better town planning would lead us to be at par with the infrastructure of developed countries and it would not only generate revenue for the country but would also strengthen industries of Pakistan. The other speakers underlined the need of a better town planning based on research and innovation.
