Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) has announced a series of protest demonstrations in case any summary or proposal to decrease service length of public sector universities’ vice chancellors (VCs) is considered.
In a press release issued on Sunday, PUASA acting president Prof Dr Abid Hussain Ch and Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain said some bureaucrats were allegedly trying to misguide the chief minister on the issue of the VCs selection, universities governance and now VCs tenure. They said any such move would be reacted in strongest possible means. “This is a conspiracy against long-term academic and research policies of universities, instead the government should consider PPP proposal to cut assemblies tenure from 5 years to 4 years,” they added.
