LAHORE
A 50-year-old woman was shot dead by her son-in-law in Raiwind City area on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Tahira Bibi of Chak Boota. Tahira Bibi’s daughter married accused Akhtar a year back. The couple started living in Layyah. The girl came to the house of her mother after some domestic disputes with her husband.
On the day of the incident, Akhtar along with his father and a brother came to the house of Tahira Bibi for reconciliation with his estranged wife. They exchanged hot words with Tahira Bibi, which led Akhtar to kill her. The accused and his two accomplices escaped.
BODY: Shahdara Town police recovered body of a five-year-old boy who was kidnapped by some unidentified people on the second day of Eid. The boy identified as Afnan of Gujranwala. The victim along with his parents went to the tomb of Jahangir on a recreational trip where he went missing. His family made all out efforts to find him but all in vain. Later, the family lodged a kidnapping case against unidentified people with the police. Some locals spotted his body lying in a pond and informed the police. The police identified the boy and found marks of torture on his body.
A 70-year-old man was found dead in Liaqatabad police limits. Some passersby spotted the body lying near a hospital and informed the police. The man yet to be identified might have died of some medical complications, police suspected. Body was removed to city morgue.
In another incident, a 40-year-old man died at the hands of some unidentified swindlers in Bhatti Gate area. Circumstantial evidence suggested that some unidentified people some poisonous substance to the victim. Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy.
WATCHMAN FOUND DEAD: A watchman was found dead in a godown in the Misri Shah police area. The deceased was identified as Griffin of Farooq Gunj. Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
HIT TO DEATH: A bike rider was killed and two others received injuries when a speeding car hit them in Chung area. Three people including Javed were on their way on a bike when a rashly driven car ran over them, injuring them. The car driver escaped. The injured were rushed to a local hospital where Javed succumbed to his injuries.
DRUG PEDDLER: Residents condemned Mughalpura police for not arresting a notorious drug pusher. Dozens of locals of Mohallah Younaspura filed a joint complaint to CCPO, Lahore, on June 15, in which they accused Babar Bahiya of spoiling the future of youngsters by pushing drugs in the area. They appealed to the CCPO to direct the Mughalpura police to take stern action against the drug peddler. Upon which, the CCPO directed the Mughalpura SHO to personally look into the matter and submit his report within five days. Mughalpura police paid no heed to the directives of the CCPO. They appealed to Punjab IG to direct the CCPO to ensure implementation on his directives.
APPEAL: Family members of a businessman shot dead in Defence C police limits in January 2015 appealed to the prime minister, Punjab chief minister, Chief Justice Supreme Court, Chief Justice High Court and IGP to look into the murder case and direct the police to round up the murderers who were still at large. Holding a press conference at Lahore Press Club, victim Muhammad Nawaz’s mother Gull Begum, wife Kausar Parveen and sons Amir Nawaz and Adeel Nawaz of Johar Town had accused Ahmad Zubair Butt and Sana Butt of killing him following a monetary issue. They said they had identified the murderers and informed the police in this regard, but the police were not willing to arrest the culprits. The victim’s son Amir Nawaz said that his father was a water supply contractor and run his business in DHA Defence.
NOTICES: CTO issued show cause notices to eleven wardens including four inspectors. He took action against the officials for not taking appropriate measures against wrong parking in Gulberg Sector, Mall-II, Kot Lakhpat, and Lorri Adda.
EXTENDED: The last date for the submission of application for requirement in Punjab Constabulary has been extended for another ten days in 13 districts of Punjab.
The decision has been taken by the IG to facilitate the candidates in the recent flood situation in the province. Thirteen districts include Lahore, Nankana, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Rawalpindi, Attock, DG Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Faisalabad, Jhang, Chiniot and Okara. The date has been extended from July 25 to August 4.
