Punjab Rescue DG Dr Rizwan Naseer while chairing a meeting of Rescue officers at Rescue 1122 Headquarters carried out a performance review of emergency operations in all 36 districts of Punjab to ensure uniform standard of the service and smooth emergency services delivery without discrimination.
The emergency data showed that 55,826 victims of different emergencies were rescued by Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) while conducting 53,175 rescue operations in June all over the Punjab, with average response time of less than 07 minutes. The meeting was attended by Director (Admin) Brig (r) Dr Arshad Zia, Deputy Director (HR) Dr Foaad Shahzad Mirza, DD (P&D) Fahim Qureshi, DD (Finance) Naeem Mukhtar, and other senior officers.
The emergency calls to which Rescue 1122 responded to include 19,033 road traffic accidents, 24,548 medical emergencies, 1,398 fire incidents, 2,124 crimes, 175 drowning incidents, 72 building collapses, 11 explosions and 5814 miscellaneous operations. According to the statistics, out of total fires, 371 fire incidents took place in Lahore, 139 in Faisalabad, 100 in Gujranwala, 93 in Rawalpindi, 76 in Multan and 65 in Sialkot. Similarly, out of total traffic accidents, some 4025 traffic accidents were reported in Lahore, 1851 in Faisalabad, 1280 in Gujranwala, 1143 in Multan and 883 in Rawalpindi, where implementation of traffic laws is strictly required.
The Provincial Monitoring Cell informed the DG that owing to prevailing condition of heatwave in the country, the emergencies of heat strokes are increasing day by day in different districts of the Punjab. Dr Rizwan Naseer said that heatstroke can be avoided by using maximum drinking water and by placing wet cloth sheet around the neck. The PMC further informed that emergencies especially the traffic accidents were also increasing during Sehri and Iftar timings. He said citizens are usually in hurry at Iftar timing but they should abide by traffic laws and show patience. “A human life cannot be risked by showing such haste, show patience and save your life and the lives of others,” he stated.
Keeping in view the current situation of the country, he directed the District Emergency Officers of Punjab to enhance activities pertaining to creating awareness among community members regarding heatstroke. He directed the DEOs to focus on prevention side because mostly emergencies are preventable. He stressed them to launch community awareness programmes regarding heatstroke, its causes and precautionary measures. He said in order to focus on Promoting Safety, Rescue 1122 shall adopt community centred approach for disaster management through community involvement in hazards identification, vulnerability & capacity assessment and risk reduction measures with community collaboration.
ACCIDENTS: At least 552 road traffic accidents were reported in Rescue 1122 Provincial Monitoring Cell in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours in which 11 lives were lost during these traffic accidents in different districts of Punjab and 465 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant district. However, some 166 victims sustaining minor injuries were provided first aid on the spot.
RAMAZAN BAZAARS: Additional Inspector General of Police Punjab Highway Patrol Mian Javed Islam paid surprise visit to Sasta Ramazan Bazaar, Daska, Jinnah Stadium and Tehsil bazaar Sialkot. He checked the standard, quality, weight, price and supply of the commodities. He instructed to enhance the security of Daska Bazaar and Jinnah Stadium.
