LAHORE: Lady Health Workers continued protest outside Punjab Assembly on the third consecutive day, causing huge inconvenience to the commuters.
The sit-in had started on Monday last to press for the demands of revised service structure, scale upgrade, regularisation of ad hoc employees and payment of outstanding arrears. Health Services Director General Dr Munir Ahmed made an effort of convincing the LHWs to call off protest, but of no avail. Determined LHWs vowed to continue protest till issuance of notification. Carrying placards and banners inscribed with their demands, the protesting LHWs chanted slogans against the bureaucracy and the government.
One protesting LHW fell unconscious at noon. After giving first aid, Rescue 1122 shifted her to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. On Tuesday, one LHW also went unconscious. Like in the last couple of days, commuters were the ultimate sufferers of the protest. The police blocked The Mall from Alhamra Art Centre to Regal Chowk, diverting traffic to adjoining roads. Commuters from Queen’s Road were also not given access to Faisal Chowk. The traffic was diverted to Lawrence Road. Massive traffic jam was witnessed throughout the day as all these roads were already overburdened. People faced difficulties in getting access to schools for taking children home. People were seen exchanging harsh arguments with protesting LHWs on not getting a way to go to their respective destinations.
PPP leader Samina Khalid Ghurki visited the venue to express solidarity with the protesting Lady Health Workers. She said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has directed her to assure full support to the LHWs. She said it was a pity that demands of LHWs were accepted last year but nobody bothered to implement the decision. She urged the government to accept all legitimate demands at the earliest so that the daughters of the nation and small kids could go back home.
LHWs President Rukhsana Anwar said the protest would continue till acceptance of all the demands. “We are fully prepared and have come this time with bag and baggage. We have spent two nights under open sky and were ready to spend the third one. We will not leave the venue till getting notification,” she said. scanning camp: Doctors of Lahore General Hospital have announced holding a free medical camp for the patients of hepatitis.
The facility will be available on Friday (tomorrow) from 8.00am to 2.00pm where patients can visit for diagnosis. Under the supervision of Prof Ghiasun-Nabi Tayyab, medical team headed by Dr Israrul-Haque Toor will be undertaking free check up for stomach diseases. In these camp tests of hepatitis will be conducted free of cost. Talking in this regard, Dr Sheraz said all those people having any problem of stomach should visit this medical camp so that they can avoid further complications. The medical camp will be organised at Jamia Mosque Ibrahim in Gajoo Matta.
Honoured: A short film produced by Punjab University College of Art and Design’s Assistant Professor Dr Ahmed Bilal in connection with Pakistan Day Celebrations has been shortlisted and screened by Pakistan Television.
Pakistan Television has organised its 1st Short Film Festival from 13 to 23 March 2019 as part of Pakistan Day Celebrations in which hundreds of short films were received in this festival, out of which 23 films were selected for the final phase. One of these films, “Tasalsul”, is produced and directed by Dr Ahmed Bilal. In this short film Ahmed has given a beautiful message in just three minutes.
