PO finally appears before DPO after securing bail

The proclaimed offender wanted by Rahim Yar Khan police, who was set free soon after his arrest in Lahore under immense pressure, finally appeared before the Rahim Yar Khan DPO on Tuesday after securing protective bail.

Rahim Yar Khan police facilitated the proclaimed offender to secure bail first and then he appear before the commander of the district police. Source said the Khanpur City DSP would listen to the stance of the accused person on Tuesday night and then the complainant of the FIR, Nasir Saeed, would also be summoned on Wednesday (today) for cross questioning.

DPO Umar Salamat on the issue said he had assigned the investigation of the case to an honest DSP for the case to be decided on merit.

The complainant of the FIR (4/18) registered at Khanpur City police station who deals in the business of mangoes alleged that the PO Col ® Asif Khan had met him at the funeral of his partner Azam Khan’s younger brother. Azam Khan introduced him to Asif Khan. The accused person suggested purchase of pulping machine to expand the business and wished to become a business partner at the ratio of 20/80 percent. The complainant transferred Rs20.1 million in his bank account through different cheques. The copies of the cheques are available with The News.

Meanwhile, the accused received Rs 1 million further on February 02, 2016, saying the machine had arrived in Karachi and he needed to pay the cash in lieu of duty tax. However, the machine never reached his farmhouse. The accused kept on making lame excuses, the complainant said.

The accused was arrested on February 20 by the investigation officer of the case in Lahore. However, he was got released by a senior police officer after getting his pledge that he would appear before the DPO on Thursday last.

He kept on dodging police till Monday. However, he appeared before the DPO on Tuesday and recorded his initial statement. Further investigation is underway. —
