PILAC DG Dr Sughra Sadaf delivered a welcome speech and stressed the need for making Punjabi a compulsory subject on the secondary level, adding that extremism could be eliminated by spreading the message of peace which was given by Punjabi Sufi saints. All the speakers pledged to promote the language and culture of Pakistan’s most populous province, Punjab. Punjab Minister Ijaz Alam Augustine said that nations could be recognised by their mother tongue and the PTI government in collaboration with all stakeholders was committed to promote culture and tradition. He admired the efforts made by PILAC to promote Punjab’s culture and traditions and hoped that series of these kinds of events would be continued.
