Motorway police to take strict action on violations

Lahore: National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) has started taking strict legal action on traffic violations by the public service vehicles (PSVs).

NH&MP Deputy Inspector General Ahmad Arslan Malik has directed all the sector and beat commanders to initiate stern legal action on traffic violations.

Ahmad Arslan Malik, Central Zone DIG, issued these directions to the officers concerned while reviewing the performance of Central Zone regarding a special campaign against the violations by the PSVs.

He directed imposition of heavy fines on violators. He said measures should be taken to reduce traffic violations by PSVs. He directed impounding vehicles of lawbreakers. DIG Ahmad Arslan Malik also directed the officers to adopt zero-tolerance policy with regard to safety helmet, speeding, lane discipline by HTVs and overloading of goods and passengers. He asked the officers to take substantive steps to reduce the causes of accidents on highways. He also directed the officers to brief the motorists on traffic rules.

PHP: The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) registered 134 cases against road users on various traffic violations and arrested 85 persons for using fake registration or unauthorised green number plates on their vehicles. PHP teams also arrested eight persons on violation of Loudspeaker Act and seven persons on charges of being drunk.

Sindh team: A delegation from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Sindh, headed by PDMA Sindh director general visited the Rescue 1122 Headquarters and Emergency Services Academy.
