THE Advancement Office at Forman Christian College arranged the Asma Jahangir Award ceremony.
According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, the idea behind the award was initiated by Ms Asma Jahangir, a renowned human rights activist.
The purpose was to make FCC students aware of human rights and their relevance to them as citizens of this country, as 35 students from the Baccalaureate and post graduate programmes participated in the competition.
Out of these, eight students were short-listed by a panel of judges from FCC which included Chairperson Department of Political Science Dr Muhammad Younis, Chairperson of English Department Dr Nukhbah Langah, faculty members from the English Department, Muhammad Abdullah and Ms Rabia Wasif, faculty members from the Department of Political Science Dr Ryan Brasher and Ms Muneeza Mirza.
The winner of the competition, Haroon Eleazer Sadiq, was chosen by the Human Rights Competition of Pakistan (HRCP). Representing HRCP and Ms Asma Jahangir was Dr Mehdi Hassan, a renowned journalist, media historian and Dean of School of Media and Mass communication at BNU.
The winner was presented with a cheque of Rs100,000 by Dr Mehdi Hassan and Vice-Rector FCC Dr Joseph Jones. Also present at the event, were Dean of Post graduate Studies at FCC, Dr Kausar Abdulla Malik and Mr Ateeq-ur-Rehman.
