Punjab Higher Education Department has notified a 17-member commission of Punjab Higher Commission (PHEC).
Besides PHEC chairperson Prof Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin, the other members include Secretary Higher Education Department, Secretary Health Department, Secretary Agriculture Department, Secretary Finance Department, a nominee of Higher Education Commission not below the rank of a whole time member of the Higher Education Commission, Chairperson, Accreditation Committee, one member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab to be nominated by the Speaker of the Assembly, Maj Gen (r) Prof Muhammad Aslam, Vice Chancellor, University of Health Sciences, Lahore, Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Government College University, Lahore, Dr Sohail Naqvi, Rector, LUMS, Lahore; Lt Gen (r) Muhammad Akram Khan, Ex-Vice Chancellor, UET, Lahore, Prof Dr Najma Najam, ex-vice Chancellor, Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi, Prof Dr Samia Kalsoom, Principal, Government College of Home Economics, Lahore, Prof Dr Rukhsana David, Principal, Kinnaird College for Women, Ijaz Ahmad Mumtaz, President, Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industries (LCCI) and Ms Nighat Yawar Ali. The term of a member other than an ex-officio member shall be four years or till the completion of tenure as an official, whichever is earlier. Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin said a meeting of the commission would be convened soon to devise a comprehensive strategy for promotion of higher education and enhancing access in the province and ensuring relevance of research and development at par with national and international standards. He added the key decisions related to higher education sector of the province would be undertaken through consultation with relevant stakeholders and collective wisdom.
