Investigation into gas overbilling to hospital ordered

LAHORE: The third meeting of syndicate of Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) has taken many decisions regarding the payment of bills for the procurement of medical equipment, outsourced janitorial services in the allied hospitals of RMU, extension in contract employees’ tenure and recruitment of new staff.

The syndicate directed initiate inquiry into overbilling of sui gas in Holy Family Hospital. The meeting was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Minister Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Kh Salman Rafique, according to a handout issued here. Besides, RMU Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Amjad, Rector National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Lt-Gen Retd Naweed Zaman, representative of HEC Lt-Gen Muhammad Imran Majeed, former Chairman Board of Management Dr Muhammad Aslam, Director Local Audit Fund Mazhar Hussain, Member Punjab Assembly Zaib un Nisa Awan, Medical Superintendent Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Holy Family Hospital, DHQ Hospital and other officers concerned attended the meeting.

Kh Salman Rafique said that the causes and responsibility of overbilling should be determined whether it is due to leakage or due to out of order sui gas meters or any other cause of extra billing must be probed. He directed that responsibility of negligence also be fixed so that action could be taken against the responsible under the rules.

The syndicate lauded the extraordinary services of the Minister, SH&ME, Kh Salman Rafique for health sector development and especially dengue control in Punjab. The members said that the services of Kh Salman Rafique would be remembered for a long time in medical history of the province.

Addressing the meeting, Kh Salman Rafique directed that special meeting of syndicate members be called to evaluate civil work, procurement of medical equipment and to review the arrangement for cleanliness in the allied hospitals of the university. He also directed that before getting approval for the recruitment of grade-1 to 15 from the syndicate, Election Commission of Pakistan be consulted for this purpose.

He directed that action should be taken as per law in the light of High Court’s orders in the case of regularisation and reinstatement of the employees of Benazir Bhutto Hospital. The syndicate expressed satisfaction over the outsourced new janitorial system and observed that cleanliness and hygiene condition have been improved in the Holy Family, Benazir Bhutto and District Headquarters Hospitals after introducing the new outsourced janitorial services.

HEC: Punjab University (PU) and federal Higher Education Commission (HEC) have signed an agreement under which the HEC will release Rs 11.15 million to PU for the imrovment of newly-established Business Incubation Centre at Institute of Business Administration (IBA).

PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasira Jabeen, IBA Director Sajida Nisar and other officials attended the ceremony. The purpose of the grant is to accelerate the successful development of start-up and fledgling companies by providing entrepreneurs with an array of targeted resources and services. It will also support linkages between academia and R&D institutions and the private sector and provide entrepreneurs with well-equipped infrastructure.

fined: Railways Divisional Commercial Officer (DCO) Ghulam Farid on Thursday checked stalls at railway station and fined two stalls for selling goods without packing.

He visited the stalls on the directives of Divisional Superintendent Muhammad Sufian. The DCO warned some store owners. He said the stalls set up outside the railway station premises are not in the jurisdiction of railway administration. We are committed to giving quality things to railway passengers at market rate, he said.
