Importance of mother languages highlighted

LAHORE : Punjab University Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar has said that speaking in mother language is a beautiful way to express real feelings in a true manner.

He was addressing a seminar organised at the university's Institute of Languages, according to a press release issued here on Wednesday. Chairperson Department of Punjabi Dr Nabila Rehman, heads of various departments, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Addressing the seminar, Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar said that mother languages are given due respect and are considered sacred in all societies. He said that the Oriental College understood the importance of mother languages; therefore, quality research work was being produced at Faculty of Oriental Learning and Institute of Languages on modern lines. He highlighted the importance of mother languages in various cultures and urged the students to do research in the field with different socio-cultural aspects. Department of Punjabi Chairperson and other teachers also distributed books on the occasion.

appeals: A Punjab University spokesman has said that the administration will deal with the appeals of students, who were penalised by Disciplinary Committee for their involvement in January 22 incident, in accordance with the law.

According to a press release issued here Wednesday, he said the administration would review their appeals sympathetically so that the future of the students, who are not involved in the incident, could not be spoiled and their grievances regarding the decision of Disciplinary Committee, if any, could be addressed.

However, he said, the vice-chancellor was determined not to tolerate any pressure from any organisation in this regard. He said that the administration assured all the relevant stakeholders that no unjust would be done with anybody.

results: Punjab University Examinations Department has declared the results of BS Home Economics Part-II (first year) second annual 2017 and Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics annual 2017.

synopses: A meeting of Punjab University Advanced Studies and Research Board (AS&RB) was held under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar here on Wednesday.

According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, the Board approved 25 PhD synopses, nine evaluation reports, four Panel of Examiners cases and 27 extension cases. Prof Dr Shahid Kamal, Prof Dr Nasira Jabeen, Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Chawla, Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan, Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhter, Prof Dr Hassan Mobeen Alam, Prof Dr Khalid Hussain, Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Mazhar, Prof Dr Tahira Basharat, Prof Dr Fakhar-ul-Haq Noori, Chairperson DPCC Prof Dr Anjum Nasim Sabri and Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan attended the meeting.
