No check on quality, prices at Sunday bazaars

As the government was busy in arrangements for the spring festival, the vendors kept on fleecing public by selling the rain-hit vegetables at their own free will without any checks and balances on the quality and prices of fruits and vegetables this week.
The quality of vegetables was affected due to rains during the last few consecutive days while the authorities did not bother quality while fixing the prices. On the other side, the issue of fixing the prices of some vegetables remained unsolved as the government fixed the lower prices while vendors claimed that it was even much lower than their buying rate from the wholesale market.
Due to this issue number of vegetables are always missing from the makeshift markets every week but sold openly just outside these temporary markets. Tomato and green chilli are the two main items which are not sold in the makeshift markets majority of time on wrong price fixation issue. This week again tomato, capsicum and cauliflower were not sold in the makeshift market.
Potato price was fixed at Rs14 to 16 per kg, and onion at Rs20 to 23 per kg with an increase of Rs2 per kg while rotten and lower grade was sold at Rs23 per kg. Tomato price was fixed at Rs40 to 42 per kg but it was not sold in the makeshift markets of the city due to wrong price fixation issue. Just outside the bazaars it was sold at Rs70 to 100 per kg. Garlic china price was fixed at Rs108 to 115 per kg, garlic India Rs104 to 108 per kg, while both Indian and Chinese was sold at Rs130 per kg. Ginger Thailand was fixed at Rs108 to 112 per kg, ginger China at Rs118 to 124 per kg, while Indian was sold at Rs130 per kg.
Spinach local was fixed at Rs20 to 23 per kg, and farm at Rs9 to 11 per kg, while it was sold at Rs23 to 25 per kg. Brinjal price was fixed at Rs40 to 45 per kg with an increase of Rs10 per kg while lower quality was sold at Rs50 per kg. Cucumber price was fixed at Rs30 to 36 per kg, while sold at Rs35 to 40 per kg. Bitter

gourd price was fixed at Rs132 to 137 per kg while sold at Rs140 to 160 per kg. Zucchini long was fixed at Rs20 to 25 per kg, and round at Rs25 to 28 per kg, while sold in the range of Rs25 to 30 per kg. Lemon China was fixed at Rs50 to 54 per kg, while mixed quality was sold at Rs60 to 80 per kg.
Cauliflower was fixed at Rs25 to 31 per kg, while missing in makeshift markets and outside these markets sold at Rs50 per kg, cabbage was fixed at Rs15 to 17 per kg. Green chilli local was fixed at Rs95 to 102 per kg, and farm at Rs78 to 83 per kg, while sold at Rs100 to 120 per kg. Capsicum was fixed at Rs40 to 45 per kg but also not sold in the makeshift markets. Arum price was fixed at Rs65 to 70 per kg, sold at Rs80 per kg, pumpkin at Rs50 to 55 per kg, sold at Rs60 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs120 to 130 per kg, sold at Rs140 per kg.
The price of pea was fixed at Rs20 to 25 per kg while rain affected was sold at Rs25 per kg. Radish price was fixed at Rs7 to 8 per kg, sold at Rs10 to 15 per kg, turnip at Rs6 to 8 per kg, sold at Rs10 to 20 per kg, methi at Rs10 to 13 per kg, but not sold there. Carrot price was fixed at Rs15 to 20 per kg, while sold at Rs20 per kg. The price of different variety of apples was fixed at Rs45 to 135 per kg, while sold in the range of Rs60 to 130 per kg. Pomegranate Bedana was fixed at Rs240 to 246 per kg, and Khandari at Rs190 to 200 per kg, but not sold there. Kinow A-category was fixed at Rs80 to 90 per dozen, B-category at Rs40 to 43 per dozen, but sold at Rs70 to 90 per dozen.
Other citrus fruit was fixed in the range of Rs60 to 124 per dozen while sold in the range of Rs80 to 120 per dozen. Guava A-category was fixed at Rs45 to 52 per kg, B-category at Rs35 per kg but sold at Rs50 per kg. Melon A-category was fixed at Rs60 to 70 per kg, B-category at Rs40 to 45 per kg, but sold at Rs60 to 70 per kg. Banana A-category was fixed at Rs50 to 55 per dozen, B-category at Rs40 to 45 per dozen, while sold at Rs55 per dozen. Strawberry A-category was fixed at Rs140 to 148 per kg, and B-category was fixed at Rs110 per kg while sold at Rs 150 per kg.
