Winter Olympics start in South Korea Friday

The wait is finally over for sport enthusiasts as the Winter Olympics 2018 will officially commence from tomorrow (Friday) with the opening ceremony in South Korea.

The multi-sport event had its host city of Pyeongchang elected back in 2011 during the 123rd IOC Sessions in Durban, South Africa; and this marks the second time, the country is hosting Olympics after the 1988 Summer Olympics that were conducted in Seoul.

Commonly known as Pyeongchang 2018, the games will include a total of 102 events in the divisions of 15 different sports, including Snowboarding, Speed Skating, Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Bobsleigh, Figure Skating, Curling, Cross Country Skiing and various others.

As per reports, a total number of 2,952 athletes from 92 countries around the world have partaken in the winter games.

The Olympics will conclude on February 25th with the final match of the men’s hockey team.

Two Pakistani athletes are also participating in Winter Olympics.

Over 28,700 security personnel are deployed for the security of the games.
