LAHORE College for Women University (LCWU) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) on Friday signed an MoU to work for a shared goal of women empowerment.
Through this agreement the two parties agreed to develop a partnership for better coordination and cooperation by leveraging the technical expertise and resources that both institutions brought in promoting gender equality efforts. Both partners will also take on some joint initiatives of strategic importance related to girls’ empowerment in the area of Violence Against Women (VAW), economic empowerment, civic and political education and improved quality of education in the area of gender studies.
LCWU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Sabiha Mansoor and UN Women Country Representative Jamshed Kazi signed the agreement. Provincial Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din joined the event as chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sabiha hoped that the MoU would help strengthen new avenue of cooperation by making optimal and effective resources for both institutions and promote gender equality issues. “This moment marks our long-term partnership in joining hands to create an enabling environment for the empowerment of young girls and women in Pakistan”, said Kazi.
PU exams: Punjab University (PU) has announced the commencement of BA/BSc Annual Examination 2015 from April 9, 2015. Meanwhile, PU has awarded three PhD degrees to scholars. Muhammad Abdur Rehman Nasir has been awarded a PhD degree in Islamic Studies, Aisha Waheed Qurashi in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and Samra Imran in the subject of Home Economics after an approval of her thesis entitled “Development of Gluten Free Flour From Indigenous Sources and its Biological Evaluation on Celiac Patients”.
