LAHORE: Despite the visit of price control committee official overcharging and non-availability of most of seasonal vegetables continued in the weekly makeshift markets of the city.
This week price control committee chairman visited the Wahdat Colony Sunday bazaar to check overcharging and non-availability of perishable items. However, his visit was just limited to roam in the bazaar as no benefit reached the public. Number of vegetables, including radish, mongray, brinjal and some offseason, including ladyfinger, luffa, pumpkin and others were not available in the makeshift markets. Besides, fruits were sold higher than the official rates.
This week again price of potato was fixed at Rs25 per kg for makeshift markets and Rs26 per kg for open markets. But in makeshift markets, it was not available and in open markets it was sold at Rs40 to 50 per kg exposing the poor price fixation and control mechanism in the city. Potato new price was declined by Rs8 per kg, fixed at Rs23 to 25 per kg, after midday potato was not available as the vendors refused to sell on account of wrong pricing and in open markets it was sold at Rs40 to 50 per kg. The price of onion increased by Rs4 per kg, fixed at Rs47 to 50 per kg, mixed grade was sold at Rs50 per kg, A-grade at Rs60 per kg. The price of tomato was reduced by Rs22 per kg, fixed at Rs57 to 60 per kg.
Garlic China was declined by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs112 to 115 per kg, and garlic local by Rs30 per kg, fixed at Rs78 to 80 per kg, while all variety was sold at Rs120 to 130 per kg. Ginger Chinese was reduced by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs131 to 135 per kg, and Thai at Rs68 to 70 per kg, and it was sold at Rs140 per kg. The price of brinjal remained unchanged at Rs33 to 35 per kg, sold at Rs40 per kg.
Cucumber local was gained by Rs17 per kg, fixed at Rs43 to 45 per kg, not sold on wrong pricing issue. Bitter gourd was reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs73 to 75 per kg, not sold there.
Spinach was stable at Rs22 to 23 per kg, sold at Rs40 per kg as market committee officials issued the rates of spinach local Rs40 per kg to vendors instead of official price list rate of Rs25 per kg. Lemon Chinese was reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs38 to 40 per kg, sold at Rs60 per kg. Zucchini farm was fixed at Rs33 to 35 per kg, and zucchini long gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs43 to 45 per kg, both were sold at Rs50 per kg. Pumpkin was stable at Rs53 to 55 per kg, not sold.
Green chilli was increased by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs92 to 95 per kg, sold at Rs100 per kg. Capsicum was stable at Rs97 to 100 per kg, not sold on wrong pricing issue. Coriander fixed at Rs70 per kg, sold at Rs240 per kg. Beans rates were not issued but sold at Rs200 per kg.
Carrot price was gained by Rs6 per kg, fixed at Rs23 to 25 per kg. Methi was stable at Rs48 to 50 per kg, not sold there on wrong pricing issue. Turnip was reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs23 to 25 per kg. Radish was fixed at Rs6 to 7 per kg, not sold on wrong pricing issue.
