Youth set on fire for ‘stealing’ phone

A 19-year-old youth was set on fire over an allegation of stealing a mobile phone in the Nawab Town police area on Saturday.
Victim Arshad had an exchange of harsh words with the accused, Jahangir, over an issue of mobile phone theft. The matter escalated and Jahangir allegedly set him ablaze after sprinkling petrol on him.
The victim suffered burns and was rushed to Jinnah Hospital where his condition was stated to be stable. The boy suffered burns to his face and arms.
The inspector general of police took notice of the incident and directed arrest of the accused.
Three found dead: Three persons were found dead in different parts of the city in the last two days.
A 40-year-old man was found dead a few yards away from the Yakki Gate police station. Police suspected that consumption of some poisonous substance might have claimed the life of the man, identified as Zahid.
Meanwhile, a 50-year-old man was found dead in the limits of Qila Gujjar Singh police and a 55-year-old man in the jurisdiction of Mozang police.
Both men, yet to be identified, were addicts who might have died of overdoses of drugs.
injured: Three people were injured when two groups attacked each other with sticks over the issue of decorating Bhatti Gate Bazaar on the eve of Eid Milad.
The injured were identified as Azam, Asif and Asghar and admitted to hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.
Eid Milad in jails: Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) was celebrated in all jails of Punjab with religious zeal.
Jail inmates participated in the contests of the Holy Quran and Naat recitation and speeches on Seerart-un-Nabi (SAW).
Youth found dead: A 23-year-old youth was found dead in mysterious circumstances in the Nawankot area on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Asif. Police said the man took dinner and went to sleep. Later, the residents of the house found him lying dead in his room. Police have removed the body to morgue.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man was found dead in the Gawalmandi police jurisdiction.
Passersby spotted his body lying near Dyal Singh College and informed police. Police said he was an addict. He might have died of an overdose of drugs, police suspected. The body has been removed to morgue.
